We also provide students with a healthy snack every day. Including oranges, strawberries, apples, pears, carrots, and more!
When the students come into the classroom in the mornings, we let them hang out and play with centers for about 15 minutes. Then we all go into our “book nook”. This is a small room where we have small couches and chairs for the students, along with LOTS of books. Each morning, Kara (the lead teacher), reads a short bible story to the students. After the Bible story, the students get to pick 1 to 3 books that they want to read as a class.
After story time, we do something special called prayer wall. The prayer wall is a time where the students all get to sit down, with a piece of paper and markers, crayons, or colored pencils, and draw something they want to pray about. This gives us a chance to talk to the students about praying and what it is. Showing them that they can pray about anything they want! When prayer wall is finished the students get to continue playing with the learning centers.
The students play with the learning centers for about 30 to 45 more minutes! After, we get started on our large group activity. We read a book about what we are learning about then we talk about it and incorporate a fun craft for the students! This is a time where the students get to be creative. After a large group activity, we eat an extremely healthy snack. Right after snack, the students get to go outside for some fun! When we come back in, usually after about 10 to 15 minutes, the students enjoy some music with the teachers! By the end of music, it is time to go home!
At First Presbyterian Preschool, we strive to make sure that the students are learning. We want all the students that come through the doors of our preschool to be ready for Kindergarten by the time they have to leave. The staff at our preschool program is also one of a kind. They are loving, caring, and respectful to the students within the program, along with the parents. The staff wants to make sure the students are comfortable with them and the environment, as well as the parents. First Presbyterian Preschool is a place of fun, loving, caring, and faithful staff members and community members trying to build not only children’s general education but their faith-based education as well.
Each day we try to make sure that the students are getting an education, learning about God, and also having fun! One thing that First Presbyterian Preschool offers that is truly incredible, is the faith-based education. Not many places in the area are going to offer your children the chance to learn and get closer to God, but our program does! By the end of our preschool program, we want you, students, to not only be ready for Kindergarten but to be ready to share and encourage faith for others!
Meet Our Teachers!
Hello, I am Kara Wade. I am the lead teacher at First Presbyterian Preschool. I was born and raised in Winfield, Iowa. I have five siblings and two amazing parents. I went to college at Indian Hills Community College, in Ottumwa, receiving my Associates of Arts Degree. I am currently enrolled at Buena Vista University, in Ottumwa, studying Elementary Education. I really enjoy volleyball, coloring/drawing, and being with my friends and family. I am working towards my Elementary Education degree because I have a strong love for children. Working with children is a job, but for me, it is fun and is something that I sincerely love doing. I could not imagine working in any other field!
Hello, I am Tangi Craycraft. I am the assistant preschool teacher at First Presbyterian Preschool. I love children! I enjoy working with and teaching them. I always have! Other things I enjoy are board games, some video games, drawing/painting, nature (such as camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, bonfires, trails and creek walking, etc.), and FOOD. I am blessed to have six beautiful children of my very own! I am thirty-seven years “young” and currently reside in Albia, Iowa, where I grew up.
