Pastor Bill Hornback
Pastor Bill Hornback has been the minister at First Presbyterian Church since 2018. Bill and his wife, Kathleen, have raised seven children and they have 22 grandchildren. During his 50-plus years as a pastor, Bill has served churches in three states.
“After a short retirement, I felt God led me to this wonderful congregation of people at First Presbyterian Church,” he said. “I’m grateful to serve here.”
Bill enjoys participating and directing community theatre in his free time.
Lu Ann Pilcher
Lu Ann Pilcher is First Presbyterian’s faithful secretary. Lu Ann grew up in Ottumwa and knows the history of the area well. She has three children and three grandchildren. Lu Ann has worked as a church secretary for more than 20 years, and has served at First Presbyterian Church since 2007. She likes to do crafting projects.
Steve Miller is the church’s choir director. Steve retired from Ottumwa High School as an instrumental music instructor after 39 years in education. He continues to teach private lessons. Steve and his wife, Cheryl, have two children and four grandchildren. Steve is active in Rotary International and the Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra, and enjoys being an amateur radio operator.
Cheryl Miller has been the organist at First Presbyterian Church since 2018. Cheryl has taught private piano lessons since she was in college. Cheryl and her husband, Steve, have two children and four grandchildren. Cheryl’s interests include gardening, cooking, and watching old movies.
Karie Martindale is the Program Director of the First Presbyterian Preschool. Karie is retired after a long, successful career in education. She holds BA and MA degrees in Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education. Karie is also teaching part-time in the FPC Preschool classroom.
Thomas Goering is the Lead Preschool Teacher at First Presbyterian Church. As a graduate of the FPC Preschool, he has come full circle in his position as Lead Teacher. Thomas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy at the University of Iowa. He has plans to apply to seminary school in the near future to continue his path towards ordination and ministry. Teaching preschool is an important step for him on that journey.
Alexis Nace is the Associate Teacher at First Presbyterian Church Preschool. A lifelong Ottumwa resident, Alexis is the middle child in a family with four brothers and three sisters. Alexis has worked with children since 2015, and loves all that the preschool and church provides.
Randy Anderson is the Financial Secretary and Webmaster at First Presbyterian Church. Randy and his wife, Suzanne, are longtime members of the church. They have three grown children, all of whom were raised at First Presbyterian. They also have four grandchildren, with another one on the way. Randy’s interests include golfing, running, and spending time with his family.
Scott Bullock is the church custodian and handyman. He has one child and two grandchildren. In his spare time, Scott likes to work in his yard and relax.
